Amida Trust is an educational charity and supports the practice and work of the Amida Shu (Amida School of Pureland Buddhism) in the UK and Amida Delhi in India.

Amida Trust (AT) is committed to protecting the privacy of people who provide us with contact details – see below. This statement is made in the light of the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations in order to advise you of AT’s data processing practices which will govern the processing of your data. What information do we collect from you?

The type of information we collect includes: your name and e-mail address

and may include your postal address, telephone number and mobile number, if you have given those to us.

When do we collect information?

We have access to your email address when you sign up for one of our electronic newsletters, or join an Amida google-group or the Friends of Amida Shu social network. We may also obtain information if you attend a temple or local group, an Amida event or retreat or are taking one of the Amida on-line courses, or similar.

When you make a donation through PayPal or CAF we have access to your email address.

We ask your consent to keep your Amida e-group information email address.

Amida newsletter or e-group communications always include a link whereby you can un-subscribe or change your settings.

How do we use this information?

We will use your personal information to enable us to maintain your membership of the Amida e-groups or to keep you subscribed to newsletters. We will not share your information with third parties other than the Service Providers working on our behalf – see below.

We use your information to keep you informed of meetings associated with the charity in the UK and to share Amida Buddhist teachings.

We may also need to retain some personal information for records and administration purposes.

We have Third Party Service Providers working on our behalf: We may pass your information to our third party service providers, agents, subcontractors and other associated organisations for the purposes of completing tasks and providing services to you on our behalf (for example to process donations, to send you mailings and to send you on-line lessons on one of our courses). However, when we use third party service providers, we disclose only the personal information that is necessary to deliver the service and we use organisations that are required to keep your information secure and not use it for their own direct marketing purposes. Please be reassured that we will not release your information to third parties beyond Amida Trust/Amida Shu for them to use for their own direct marketing purposes or we are required to do so by law, for example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime.

Security precautions in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of your information

We take appropriate measures to ensure that the information disclosed to us is kept secure, accurate and up to date and kept only for so long as is necessary for the purposes for which it is used, as stated above.

When you give us personal information, we take steps to ensure that it is treated securely.

*Paper records are kept locked away.
*Electronic records are kept on a password controlled and restricted access Google area. Google is GDPR compliant.

*Mailchimp, which we use for newsletters, is password controlled.

Records are kept on secure computers and accessed through password protected devices.

Who has access to your information?

As indicated above, we may pass your information to our service providers and agents. We may also need to disclose your information if required to do so by law.

Data may be shared with the Amida Shu membership secretary and the Amida Trust chair and treasurer.

How you can access and update your information?

The accuracy of your information is important to us. We are working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information that we hold about you. In the meantime, if you change email address, or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date,

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information AT hold about you. We may need to charge for information requests to cover our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.

Amida Academy

Only the administrators of the site can see your email address, location and any other details you submitted when you signed up for the courses.

Should you have shared personal material in the Amida Academy site lesson comments, you can delete this – first, contact your tutor for details and to discuss this. The site is password protected.

How long will we keep your information?

We review our retention periods for personal information on a regular basis. We are legally required to hold some types of information to fulfil our statutory obligations (for example the collection of Gift Aid). We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or as long as is set out in any relevant contract you hold with us.

What are your rights?

If at any point you believe the information we process on you is incorrect you can request to see this information and have it corrected or deleted. If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact us to have the matter investigated.
